Brandon Washington is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Equal Opportunity and Compliance at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. In this role he oversees the University’s compliance with federal and state civil right laws, including but not limited to, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and Sections 503, 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Prior to joining UNC, Brandon was the Director of Institutional Equity and Title IX Coordinator at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida.
Before his time in higher education, he spent 5 years as an investigator, trainer and mediator with the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR). During his time at OCR, he investigated over 170 federal civil rights cases involving Title IX compliance audits, sexual harassment in the workplace, race discipline of black males, different treatment of African American students in elementary schools.
Brandon has a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina, a MBA from Charleston Southern University and a J.D. from Florida A&M College of Law. He is a licensed attorney in the State of North Carolina.
